I started Bikram Yoga in September 2008. I was a personal trainer for many years and accustomed to the gym, but decided I needed something different. The yoga teacher for my first class was great and had a thick European accent. I hardly understood anything he was saying, but that didn't matter because at the end I was HOOKED!!!
What I love about teaching and practicing yoga is the internal calm it provides. After each session I am able to focus and get things done. I own three studios so I have a lot on my plate in addition to a heavy teaching schedule. It is my daily meditation. The focus and concentration required to execute the various postures is what meditation is all about. I often tell my students if they are self-focused what happens externally won't disturb them. This is a life skill that can be applied in the work place, with family, and in any situation that threatens to disturb your peace.
My practice enables me to be a better mother, partner and entrepreneur. I can focus better and get my To Do list done efficiently. Of course I have help too! The point is — when things are right with me, everything is right around me — my relationships, my business, my parenting. If I take care of myself then I can be available to those I love and who love me.
I look forward to sharing Bikram Yoga with our newest community, the Mt. Vernon neighborhood in Baltimore, MD. The studio is scheduled to open Summer 2018.
