Leslie Booker is a facilitator, trainer, public speaker, consultant and yoga teacher. As the Director of Trainings for the Lineage Project, she has shared the practices of yoga and mindfulness to incarcerated youth and underserved communities since 2007. Booker facilitated an intervention of Mindfulness and Cognitive Based Therapy, on Riker's Island from 2009-2011 through New York University, and has taught with the Prison Yoga Project in San Quentin Prison in Northern California. Co-founding the Yoga Service Council in 2010, Booker has continued to find ways to support the sustainability of those on the front lines and in direct service through co-creating the Meditation Working Group of Occupy Wall Street, monthly Yoga for ChangeMakers workshops and retreats, and diversity trainings for yoga teachers incited by Third Root’s Education Exchange.
In 2013, Booker completed her 500 hour in Mindful Yoga and Meditation through Spirit Rock, and is honored to be invited back as Faculty for the 2014-2015 training. Booker brought Mindful Yoga and Meditation to the 2012 Democratic National Convention through the Yoga Votes campaign convened by Off the Mat, Into the World, and is a regular presenter at mindfulness conferences around the country. She is on faculty of the Engaged Mindfulness Institute’s Facilitator’s Training, and co-facilitates Off the Mat’s Social Justice trainings for yoga teachers. She is truly committed to collaborations that support bridging the gap between yoga, mindfulness, grass roots activism and social justice. Booker will complete the 2½ year Community Dharma Leaders Training through Spirit Rock in 2017.
