I was born, educated and raised in San Diego, received my Masters in Social Work with an emphasis in Public Health Administration from San Diego State University in 1975. I am now retired after a 30-year career working in a variety of settings including: Medical, Psychiatric, Administrative and Community Health Program Development. I began practicing yoga on a regular basis in 1990.
After retiring, I started teaching yoga in my home to a small group of friends and family. The demand eventually grew beyond my small space. I enrolled in yoga teacher training at Yoga One in 2014 with the intention of teaching yoga at an existing yoga studio. In September of that same year I obtained my 200-hour certification from Yoga Alliance.
The training and certification process provided me with the tools and confidence to not only teach yoga, but more importantly, to make the decision to open my own studio. The universe graciously cooperated with my plan and Roots Up Yoga Flow moved from a dream to an acquired space, construction and the grand opening in January 2015.
I teach Hatha Yoga, an ancient discipline that focuses on the physical aspect of yoga called asana (postures) and Flow Yoga, which is the execution of asanas that are fluid and related to progressive or counter poses, both coordinated with breath. This style, in fact, all yoga helps to integrate and develop the connection between the mind, body and the breath (spirit) for optimum holistic performance in life.
