De Jur Jones
Los Angeles, CA
De Jur is a Los Angeles based, Loyola Marymount University certified yoga therapist under the guidance of Dr. Larry Payne. Her interest to teach yoga off the mainstream path was sparked by an article about the Prison Yoga Project's James Fox, who is her mentor. She is a certified Accessible Yoga Teacher and Ambassador by Rev. Jivana Heyman. De Jur recently completed Julian Walker and Hala Khouri’s trauma-informed 200-hour certification. She teaches trauma-informed, accessible yoga therapy to the LGBTQ population, women, and maximum-security males in California jails and prisons. She also teaches youth in juvenile halls, probation camps, and to probation staff around LA County.
De Jur’s desire is to take yoga to underserved and under-resourced populations has led her to areas akin to a yoga desert. De Jur has made it a practice and mission to shift the perception of yoga as a practice for the privileged to a practice for all abilities, ages, races, genders and sexual identities. De Jur believes the healing power of yoga should reach the farthest corners of the earth, and that no beings should be without the opportunity to practice.
